Money Saving Consumer Tip

Millions of Americans currently facing foreclosure do not realize that there are a number of ways in which they could end up still owing money on their mortgage, even after losing their home to the bank. Deficiency judgments and possible tax implications need to be considered when thinking of filing for bankruptcy, agree to the terms of a foreclosure, consider a short sale, or keep the home. Before making a final decision on the best course of action for your situation, speak to a financial counselor or other professional. The money spent to have your specific situation reviewed is well spent. It is next to impossible for the average homeowner to know how to best proceed without professional assistance.

Credit Card Holders and Consumer Debt Load

New figures are out on the credit profile of the average American. Consumers today are maintaining only five credit cards on average. Over 40% of those cards have zero balances on them. There is approximately a quarter of the American population that has chosen not to have any credit cards. The credit card industry is struggling to keep their income up as consumers recoil from the backlash the credit crash has given them. It is estimated that the $4.24 trillion worth of purchases were made on credit cards between 1998 and 2008 by consumers trying to live the American Dream which has turned into an international nightmare.

Identity Thieves Lurking On Employment Sites

The business of identity theft is shifting focus to the many online job search sites and corporate web sites that have job applications online. Thousands more people are looking for work each week and a vast majority of them do it over the internet to save on time, gas, and ego deflating personal rejections at the front desk. Many mainstream companies have jumped on the paper saving, manpower reducing bandwagon and are referring applicants to their corporate website to fill out applications and submit resumes. Personal, employment and education histories along with the treasured social security number are standard for employment applications and most people are willing to give all that information without any hesitation in the hopes of getting a job. Professional identity thieves have tapped into this conduit by making clones of the corporate websites and planting redirection coding which takes the job seeker to the cloned page instead of the genuine corporate job application. Job seekers unschooled in how to check URL’s and recognize a redirect message have no idea who they are handing their information over to.

It is never wise to enter your social security number on any form located on the internet. If you are in a situation that absolutely requires you to do so and there is no other way relay it, such as a telephone call, make certain that in the address bar at the top of the screen the http ends with an ‘s’. The trailing ‘s’ indicates your information is being sent encrypted over the internet to a secured server. Also read the address that follows the https:// to be sure you are on the site you think you are on. Any deviation in spelling or spacing of the company name could mean you are on a copycat site. Call the company and confirm the website address before throwing your identity out into cyberspace.
